We just wanted to let everyone know that two of our own team members who are seeking God's will to be missionaries are on a "vision" trip to Ecuador visiting missionaries in the area that work with orphans and children's homes. What an exciting time it has been for them as they have been there less than a week and made many contacts with orphans and experienced their struggles and joys of daily life. Please lift Daryl and Leah up in your prayers as they are doing the work of God first hand and going into remote parts of the world to tell the good news of Jesus Christ while serving the fatherless.

We look forward to having Leah update this blog with pics and stories when they return.

Hope is Fading!

Wednesday evening the 13th, Miles of Hope will be sharing our hearts with the church during the evening worship service prayer time. We encourage all visitors to this site to take a few minutes to watch some select clips that have broken our hearts. Please pray with us for the millions of children that are homeless, helpless and hungry tonight.

Hope is Fading

"Hope is Fading" reminds all of us that there is a little boy or girl all alone without hope of ever having a "forever family." Unfortunately... there isn't just one boy or one girl that has lost hope. There are untold millions! Please, pray about how God wants you to help one of them.

Beauty Out of Ashes

This video represents the rapidly increasing number of international children that are orphaned by the death of sick parents, separation from parents by terrorist in war torn countries, or simply given up by families because of the ability or desire to provide care.

"Lord, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will here their cries and comfort them. You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed, so mere people can no longer terrify them." Psalm 10:17,18 (NLT)

"I Can Help One" Event Countdown

Less than two weeks away!!!

Miles of Hope will be hosting the 2nd Annual "I Can Help One" Event on Saturday, April 30th from 3-5 pm at Triad Baptist Church in Kernersville (across from Walmart).

If you have ever wondered how YOU can help an orphaned or waiting child, this is the event for you. Many agencies, organizations and ministries will be represented to help you find answers to your questions - whether you're interested in adopting/fostering or you want to help a child in another way.

We are also privileged to welcome Rob Mitchell, nationally known speaker and author of "Castaway Kid." In addition, we will enjoy a live dance performance from the Living Hope Angels dance troupe (this is a group of children from a children's home in China). We will have special music from Everlasting and Mark Baynes as well.

Have you ever wondered how you could help an orphan?

Maybe God has called you to adopt? Maybe He hasn't.

God does tell us that pure and undefiled religion is to help orphans and widows in their distress (James 1:27).

How do we do that?

Join Miles of Hope for the "I Can Help One" event on Saturday, April 30th at 3 PM at Triad Baptist Church in Kernersville, NC (across from Wal-mart).

This year our keynote speaker will be nationally known speaker and author of Castaway Kid, Rob Mitchell.

Adoption Tax Credit for 2010

For 2010, the maximum adoption credit was increased to $13,170 (up from $12,150 in 2009). In addition, the credit was made 100% refundable for the 2010 tax year (previously, it was nonrefundable). That means you'll receive a check for any leftover adoption credit after your federal income tax bill has been reduced to zero. To claim the credit, fill out Form 8839 (Qualified Adoption Expenses), and enter the credit on line 71 of Form 1040. Per Smartmoney Magazine.

Orphan Sunday - November 7, 2010

Please join us on Sunday, November 7th at Triad Baptist Church in Kernersville (across from Wal-mart). We will have a special service featuring music, videos and a sermon on orphans and adoption. Join us Sunday evening at 5:45 PM in the Sanctuary as we watch "The Lost and Found Family," a movie about a foster family.

Miles of Hope will be sponsoring information sessions about BECOMING A FOSTER PARENT OR ADOPTING A WAITING CHILD. Sessions will be held at Triad Baptist Church in Kernersville (across from Wal-mart) in room E-107 on the following dates: Tues, Nov. 2nd from 7 to 8:30 PM, Sat., Nov. 13 from 10 to 11:30 AM (Saturday session CANCELLED due to no registrations, sorry) and on Tues, Nov. 16 from 7 to 8:30 PM. These information sessions will be in preparation for a free foster care certification course that will be offered as S.N.A.C. class beginning in January. You must attend at least one of the info sessions in order to take the certification course. Our big orphan event in May was a huge success! Thanks to everyone who volunteered their time to help put the event together. Also, thanks to those who PRAYED!!!

We had over 140 people attend the event. To God be the glory!

Here are some of the amazing results:

At least 3 couples committed to seeking God's will for adoption
7 sponsorships for financial support for an orphan through "I Can Provide for One"
18 people writing letters to orphans through "I Can Pen Pal One"
38 prayer sponsors for orphans through "I Can Pray for One"
Several donations to Lifesong for Orphans totalling $1,200
Sold $300 of Caroline's Promise fair trade items; funds go directly to orphan projects
Sold all the Gobena fair trade coffee; 100% of funds go directly to orphan projects
Andy and Sharon talked to a number of people about Post Adoption Support
Jeff and his team (Mark, Dick and Brian) led an awesome prayer vigil as part of a national Foster Care prayer event

Congratulations to Daryl and Leah Burnette on the adoption of their twins. Gabriel and Eden were born on January 18th. We are so excited and happy for them!

We received great news recently. One of the teenagers in foster care that we supported in the Christmas present drive wrote us to let us know that he has been adopted. He said "for thirteen years I sought my family and now I have found them." We praise the Lord for this "one" that has been adopted into a forever family. Through the prayers and support of our congregation God will do great things through this ministry.

Christmas Present Collection Drive

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the collection for Christmas presents for local orphans and those in foster care. Through your generous giving we were able to buy wish list items for 6 local toddlers and teenagers. We also collected a trunk load of jeans that orphans can use throughout the year as part of Children's Home Society "Jingle Jeans" program. You have made Christmas much brighter for these kids!

Orphan Sunday Kickoff of New Orphan Care Ministry

On Sunday, November 8, 2009 we launched our new orphan care ministry at Triad Baptist Church. The new ministry is named Miles of Hope Orphan Care. Since November 8 is recognized nationally as Orphan Sunday we thought it was a very appropriate day to start the new ministry.

The goals of the new ministry are:

Raise awareness and provide education on the plight of the orphan and children in waiting.
Hold collections and drives for orphans.
Sponsor short term mission trips to orphanages.
Support and encourage adoptive families.
